Used Bikes Vs. New Bikes

Deciding between a purchasing a new bike and a used bike can be difficult. It’s usually faster and more convenient to buy a new bike, but you have the potential to save a lot of money by buying a used bike. If you’re not picky about quality–say you’re just looking for a cheap bike that will get you around campus–I’d encourage you to buy a used bike. As long as a bike feels like it fits ok and works ok, you should be fine.

If you’re looking at higher-end bikes, you need to be careful. When buying a high quality used bike, you need to insure that the bike is in good shape, the components are solid, and the fit is good. People new to biking may unknowingly overlook a used bike’s flaws. If you are not very knowledgeable about bikes yourself, I highly recommend getting a knowledgeable friend involved.

Ultimately you need to weight the trade off of saving money on  a used bike vs. the ease and security of a new bike.
